The late Mike Smith (yes, that was his real name), an incredible coach and mentor of mine, used the distinctions of being "In the stands" and "On the field'' as metaphors for commitment and having a result at stake.

From the stands you may observe striking out a home-run king; Completing an 80-yard touchdown pass; or acing a serve on a tough opponent. On the other hand, how would it feel to be that pitcher, quarterback, or the deliverer of the serve? From the stands, what is your commitment to the contest? Barring a wager on the outcome, I say you have none.

Building a network marketing organization is much the same.

Most stay "in the stands" studying product knowledge, going to endless personal development training, or corporate "rallies" to gain motivation. Most watch and applaud the people crossing the stage and fantasize that one day that will be then instead of being committed to sponsoring someone like that person and clapping for a different reason. It's easier to derogate about what doesn't work than to prove what does. One takes a passive interest and merely observation and opinion.

The other takes risk, courage, strong will, a strategy, and the courage to be responsible for what you say you'll do, regardless of the eventual outcome.

Mike Smith also said that: "The world doesn't move for what we wish for or want…it moves for what we are committed to." God bless him.

  • What are YOU committed to? What are you building? Who does it include? What does it provide?"
  • Why would somebody want to be on YOUR team and "on the field" with you?
  • What's MISSING in your game, that if you learn it or put it in place you'll WIN the contest?

These are the questions the real PLAYERS in MLM ask themselves. The questions they take on the field and into battle against….themselves.

Are you one of them? Then I invite you to step down out of the stands and come onto the field and get in the game. When you do…everyone wins.
