When we use the term 'attitude', most people think 'you’ve got a big ego or an issue or that you won't conform, or maybe that, you have a negative outlook on things. Yet, many people like to think with a 'positive' outlook and have a good attitude that exudes their energy in all they do. So, there are good and bad attitudes that depend on our mindset, experiences, and education around this subject.
I, myself, have tried to look at every situation with an attitude where I see the best in things and in people. I have rarely had a bad attitude. Even when things may be challenging in my life and business, I have tried my best to look for silver linings that allow me to excel in my professional duties. Although during my personal, development journey, I have learned different ways to handle 'attitude'.
Here are five things to watch out for when it comes to communication:
- When you speak, write or comment on posts, or any correspondence, ask yourself these three things: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
- Does your body language match your words? Our words can be positive, but our body language may be negative.
- How is your energy in the delivery of your message. Is your speech labored or light and is it engaging?
- How do you make people feel about your attitude when you’re speaking, presenting your ideas, or posting about your work?
- Which of these words best describe your attitude of life both personally and professionally? Caring, mindful, patient, demanding, bold, direct, opinionated, decisive, cautious, polite, confident, shy, careful, understanding...
Now we have covered how we communicate and how mindful we are with these five starting points relating to our attitude. Let’s look at the value of our attitude when doing business with customers, clients, and building our teams. How we make people feel is crucial to get more business and increase our closing ratio, which will increase business growth for profitability.
It is important to train everyone in our organizations, showing everyone how to have a great attitude so that everyone knows the fundamental values of the organization. It is even more critical for our new people/customers to set the tone. It is helpful to display your great attitude within customer services. I believe our attitude is essential in our lives in gaining better clarity, trust, and respect for all those we interact with.
Next time you are presenting your offerings, take some time aside and ask yourself, “What was my attitude like when delivering my presentation?” It would also be a great exercise to do a poll on social media with multiple choice answers and see how others see your attitude. The results may surprise you!
Having worked in the network marketing industry for over 30 years, I have appreciated clients’ and colleagues’ personal development when building my teams on a global scale, working with different cultures, and the uniqueness of the people we hired in our organization. It not only uplifts the mood but also in turn improves productivity and the quality of work produced. I feel that all leaders should make it their business to create a great culture regarding our attitude when building our organizations.
Remember, every word matters, and everything with significant attitude matters.
