There is a famous quote from our 30th President, Calvin “Silent Cal” Coolidge, regarding indispensable qualities for success, in which he makes a strong case for consistency.

He concludes that it is not talent or education alone that gets you across the finish line. That it is “persistence and determination alone, that are omnipotent.”

I say that consistency and persistence are synergistic and often, closely related.

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I  must admit that there have been times in my life that what I seemed to be most consistent with was making the same mistakes over and over again and not learning from them.

Sound  familiar? Keep reading.

One of the reasons repetition and drill are practiced in schools and even the military, is that they form habits.

Good habits can save your life. Bad habits can cost it.

Consistency can lead to unconscious effortlessness that at first feels unfamiliar, or even tedious, but then becomes as seamless as your thoughts. Neil Armstrong’s famous quote “One small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.” Is often quoted sadly missing the final three words: “Just like drill!”

In his incredible book, “The Daily Stoic,”  Ryan Holiday states that the great Bruce Lee once said, “I would rather face a man who has practiced a thousand different kicks, than a man who has practiced the same kick a thousand times.”

Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking: “What does this have to do with Network Marketing?”

Many of us lull ourselves into complacency without having a plan for essential tasks to meet our goal. We sometimes overwhelm ourselves with WAY more to do than necessary.  For example: When it comes to prospecting, we know we need to “talk to people” ….but how many? When? Well, I say the activity is relative to the objective.

If you are committed to enrolling two new people on your team this month, making yourself a promise to “prospect” or even “talk” to 5 new people a day will, most likely have you creatively avoiding what you need to do and instead,  staring at your cell phone address book for two hours.

But what if you committed to TWO different conversations a day with someone you know…or even don’t know, without an agenda EXCEPT to practice listening? Done consistently for 5 days a week that’s 40 “conversations” a month and how many possible connections to select just TWO people you choose to enroll?

BUT it is the persistent, deliberate,  CONSISTENCY. That will make it work. Don’t take my word for it…. TRY it and see!
