Caller: "Is network marketing a good side hustle?"
Big Al: "Yes … if you hustle."
Caller: "Ug! I knew there had to be a catch!"
This is why we shouldn’t take phone calls from relatives ☺
Look for prospects with desire, not skills.. Skills, step-by-step, can be taught. Desire … almost impossible to teach. Very few of us are Tony Robbins with extra time to reprogram someone’s personal desire. Desire … almost impossible to teach.
Practice these 2 words to make it easy on our prospects. "For example …"
Human brains understand new things by comparing them to something they already know. So, if we introduce a new idea, like residual income or getting paid what we are worth, it would be good for us to provide some examples. Our prospects will find accepting our new ideas easy with examples.
"For example, residual income is like getting song royalties every month."
"For example, sponsoring someone is like adopting and helping."
"For example, building a group is like a family tree."
"For example, our monthly bonus checks are like a Christmas bonus 12 times a year."
How to be #1 … in 5th grade.
In 5th grade, I was the #1 student in my class. You laugh. You think, "How is that possible?" It was easy. All I had to do was to … show up! I went to a one-room rural schoolhouse in Nebraska. No running water. All eight grades in one room with a teacher with uh … limited credentials. The school was basic. We did have a small bookcase and a set of 35-year-old encyclopedias. They only covered the first World War. Now, here is the secret. All I had to do was to show up as I was the only student in 5th grade. I rocked! (I was the only student in 6th grade also, but that is another story.)
"Showing up" is the same in our network marketing career. If we show up enough times, we put the odds of success in our favor.
We can only be lucky if we are still in the game. So here is what happened in my network marketing career when I started. Nothing. I kept showing up, but I didn’t get any results. Now, I am not an idiot. After all, I was #1 in my 5th-grade class. I noticed that other people did get results. And I wondered why. It turned out that they knew how to talk to people better. Okay. Now I had a decision to make. Do I learn what to say? Or do I go back to my friends who didn’t join and say, "You were right. I will never be successful at this." I gambled and took a chance. I took a course on how to talk to people. I read books. And I attended more trainings. And now when I showed up, prospects joined. Yes, I figured this all out on my own. But you would expect that from the valedictorian of the 5th class, wouldn’t you?
Two lessons:
- First, at the very minimum, we have to show up.
- Second, if we show up and don’t get results, it is time for us to improve our skills.
How do we get 20+ prospects per day for network marketing?
We may be asking the wrong question. Consider asking, "What exactly, word-for-word, are we going to SAY to these prospects?" Most prospects are neutral … until they meet us. It is what we say and do that will make the difference. Most networkers can’t write down, word-for-word, what they are going to say in the first couple sentences. We have to fix that problem first, and then we can talk to prospects.
"If you don’t believe in what you’re selling, neither will your prospect." – Frank Bettger
Trouble getting prospects to make up their mind to join? Try saying this. "You can make it decision to start today. Or, you could make a decision not to start today, and keep your life exactly like it is." Wow. Can’t get any more direct than that. The choice is pretty clear. And the best part is that this close is rejection-free. It is our prospects’ choice. And now they know it is their choice and they have to make it now.
Get our prospects to sell themselves.
Simply ask this question: "Why are you interested in having a part-time job or business?" Then listen as our prospects sell themselves with the reasons they want this change in their lives.
Four secrets in this conversation. Can you pick them out?
Us: "Do you hate this job as much as I do?"
Prospect: "Our dream-sucking vampire boss makes this place a living hell."
Us: "I just found out how we can work out of our homes and leave this job behind."
Prospect: "Wow! I can’t do this job forever. It is killing me. Tell me more!"
Us: "Would it be okay if we had a cup of coffee with my sponsor, Joe, after work? He can tell us all about it."
Prospect: "Let’s do it! We can’t waste time. I am running out of blood."
Four secrets. Get the order correct? See the triggers?
