A coach is someone who can assist you in many ways. He should listen to what you say, figure out what you want and need, where you're weak and strong, and then help you put in the best effort possible.

Great coaches in any field, whether it's sports or business, always work to strengthen their squad. Each team member must be developed as an influential contributor before the team can succeed.

Coaching is where the rubber meets the road in building a successful network marketing business. You can be a great recruiter and bring in hundreds of new people, but unless you have a system to coach your team, you are building a "one-man show."

What's great about network marketing is that you don't have to be the one to do all the coaching.

Group efforts are possible in coaching. In reality, as your company and team expand, you won't be able to personally train all of your subordinates. Because of this, cultivating future leaders should be a top concern as your network marketing company expands.

It is critical to teach and coach new recruits in a methodical manner so that they know what to do next. Many new network marketers give up within the first ninety days, with the lack of early success being cited as the primary reason. Success comes from taking action, doing the daily activities that over time bring results.

Effective coaching should teach your people:

  • How to attract new prospects.
  • How to convert those prospects.
  • How to train and coach a new recruit.
  • How to weave the system into their daily life.

You want that new prospect that joins to experience success immediately. Statistics show that a new employee's likelihood of staying with the company after one, two, and three years increases the earlier they begin making a profit.

How can we increase the effectiveness of each coaching session?

According to one study from the field of counseling and therapy, a counselor's ability to do two things is a major factor in whether or not treatment is successful:

  1. Asking the client what he or she would like to discuss.
  2. Asking the client for feedback at the end of each session.

When these basic steps are taken, success skyrockets. All of these factors contribute to the higher possibility that the client will take action and keep coming back to see the coach.

Here are a few ideas for developing a coaching program:

  1. Schedule a one-on-one coaching session with a new team member within the first few days while their excitement is still high.
  2. Set up a conference call or webinar schedule for team members who have recently joined, with weekly sessions lasting four to six weeks. The sessions should focus on "what do I know and what do I do next" so that the new team members have a specific plan to follow.
  3. Involve other leaders in the coaching process so that new team members can get a different perspective on how to make their network marketing business work. Different personalities and strengths can show the new team members that they can be successful if they follow the plan.

And here’s the secret sauce: Listen more before you speak!
