Which Would You Prefer?

Do you want to win big OR just make a little side income from your hobby business?

You really have these two choices:

  1. You can play to not lose.

OR

  1. You can play to win.

Let's contrast these two approaches. (See if you can guess which one I prefer.)

Choice #1: Playing Not to Lose

Are you playing it safe in your business (and maybe life)? Do you:

  • worry about what could go wrong?
  • hang on to what you have?
  • remain overly cautious?
  • fear taking chances or making mistakes?
  • hold back?
  • bunt rather than swing?
  • react to what life throws at you?
  • sell your company's products "on the side" for some extra lunch, dinner, or play money?

Answering yes to any of these questions probably means you will probably survive in the world. Good for you.

But is just surviving what you really want or do you want to thrive?

Let's contrast that with choice #2.

Choice #2: Playing to Win

Playing to win means you get to up your game.

Contrast the above playing not to lose questions with the matching playing to win concepts:

  • Consider what could go right.
  • Aim to get more.
  • Take some chances.
  • Make some mistakes.
  • Push forward.
  • Swing the bat.
  • Be proactive in life.
  • Build your business to replace your job or beyond.

Time to Get Uncomfortable

If you are used to playing not to lose, these responses will make you feel uneasy.

But that's okay. Feeling the tingly feelings of discomfort is often the first sign you are about to make some changes in your life. I always say, "Comfort Stops Progress."

Comfort stops progress.

In fact, that's the title of one chapter in my book, "Beyond the Products" and it is all about how to push past your fears and limiting beliefs.

Over time, with practice, you'll learn that it's okay to feel uncomfortable. In fact, you may even get comfortable being uncomfortable. (That's a good thing because it is the precursor to personal progress.)

I'd venture to say that most of the truly significant things you have done in your life were, at first, an uncomfortable experience. Were you uncomfortable with:

  • your first day in high school or college?
  • your first kiss?
  • proposing to your spouse?
  • your first baby?
  • merging onto the fast-moving highway for the first time?
  • parallel parking for the first time?

Are You Still Uncomfortable with These Things?

If you were to do these again, would you be as uncomfortable as the first or second time? (Except maybe parallel parking for some of you 😉)

There have been plenty of them in your life. Yes? But, after a month or two in high school, you probably fit right in. And hopefully, you can now kiss your spouse with no fear. (If not, it’s another issue.)

The best analogy I have is that it is like building up your muscles. At first, they are sore when you exercise. But, after a while, the pain goes away, leaving you with more strength without the pain.

Business Analogies

In your network marketing business, you will also experience uncomfortable things like:

  • the first product training meeting you did.
  • the first time you followed up with a prospect.
  • the first sale in your business.
  • walking the stage at the convention as a new company leader.
  • speaking on stage — the biggest one in my life.
  • quitting your job because you are making too much in your thriving network marketing business.

The important thing is that if you play to win, you will get to learn to do what is necessary to advance in your attitude and business.

Here are some things you can do in your business that might seem uncomfortable at first.

  • Start a leadership or team training call using Zoom or com.
    • Don't let fear get in your way or slow you down as it did for me.
  • Invest in your business — Take calculated risks.
    • Get a coach.
    • Take a good training course.
    • Don't be afraid to buck your upline.
      • I didn't always do what my upline told me to do. (OMG!)
      • Remember, they may only be months ahead of you in the business — you may know more than them about running an actual business.
    • Join an online network marketing community.
      • Connect with other MLM trailblazers.
      • Connect with MLM Masters.
      • Check out com.
    • Automate your business.
      • Online CRM.
      • Direct mailing service.
      • Send brownies via automation.
      • Send personalized invitations via automation.

Discomfort Never Ends... But That's Okay!

Realize that life will continue to challenge you even after you have made it to the rank you are seeking. For me, after I hit Diamond, I experienced the feelings of discomfort while:

  • publishing each book that I've written.
  • writing the first few articles for TNMM.
  • running my first online training course.
  • spending ungodly amounts for coaches to take me to the next levels in my business.
  • and many other things.

The fears and discomfort never really go away, but it is so worth pushing past them because life just gets better and better.

Life Can Get Better

Push past your fears so you can play to win, because your life can get better for you and your family. In the end, playing to win can bring you much happiness.

Someday, you may even become comfortable with all the passive income flowing to you from your business.

It's worth it — Trust me.
