This is one of my favorite topics, that I especially learned when I was a single mom (for fifteen years), raising four kids, without any outside financial help, and without any family members around. I knew without a doubt that I needed to be strong, unwavering, clear-headed, and focused, so my children could learn (by example), that if anything unexpected happened, we could find solutions and work it all out.

The most important lesson I wanted to teach them, was to never quit.

Did I feel like quitting? Yes many times, but because I got out of myself and focused on my kids and their future outlook, any thoughts of quitting left me in a hurry, because I had created my “WHY” and “PURPOSE”, and it was Absolutely HUGE.  It was my strength to carry me through anything. I was determined for my kids to become successful, responsible adults, by doing my best to be a good example for them.

When my kids were young, I wanted to teach them about setting and reaching goals, and started them with “The Blue Books”, (binders that were colored blue filled with daily check-off worksheets) and created daily things they could do to earn money.  Since I didn’t have a lot of extra money, I created over twenty-five things they could do each day, and they earned one penny per item checked off.  Items included picking up toys, reading a book (having an older sibling read to them counted for both of them), brushing their teeth, and small easy chores for them to do (age-appropriate).  The big reveal was at nighttime when we would group in the living room right before bed and go over “The Blue Books”.  I was also teaching honesty, and would even ask to smell someone’s breath to see if they really brushed their teeth. (No one wanted to be caught telling a lie because then I would take pennies out of their jar.)

My children are now in their 30s and early 40s very successful on their own and those that have children, are incredible parents. My oldest is now a grandparent.

When it comes to having a home-based business, the same type of application applies to raising your own kids or raising animals, or someone else’s children.  You’ll be surprised by the simplicity of the secrets to setting goals and keeping them through this list:

Secrets of Success When Setting and Reaching Goals

1. Have a real deep talk with yourself about whatever methods work best in doing that.

Mine is writing in my journal.  What do you want your legacy to be?  My kids know that I care enough to not quit…I have proven that.  What is it that you want to teach by example?  How are you going to leave the world a better place? (The little things are noticed.)

2. Now what do you want to achieve with your home-based business that will help achieve reaching your legacy?

Most times it is “Time Freedom”, meaning you are successful financially and paying off debt. What is your main reason?

3. What do you plan to contribute back once you reach your financial success?

Do you plan on starting your own charity, or getting involved as a donor/and or participant with an established charity?

4. How much time are you willing to dedicate each day to learning more about your home-based business and products through company training, reading or listening to books about how to do your business better, and making phone calls?

An hour per day? 30 minutes per day?

There is a great leader who met people three times a week on his lunch hour, and grew his millions that way, one lunch at a time. It took him a while, but his consistency made his success.

5. How committed are you to reaching success?

Do you have the PASSION, and FORTITUDE to do this?  It needs to be the same DRIVE that you used when caring for your kids or animals. There was no choice….it had to be done, as you may have been the only caregiver and they were dependent on you.  It is the same when reaching success with Network Marketing.  This work has to be done! It depends on YOU.

Before setting your goals, 1 through 5, must be completely resolved.  If you are unsure of your purpose and your why, then go through the process again. Visualize the entire picture, the beginning, the journey, and the rewards of sticking with it, and when all of that is finally clear, then you can set your goals.

6. Set Simple Daily Steps

Consistency will be your success.  You can build your own business with one hour per day.  Break that hour into fifteen-minute segments. Divide that up with

  • 15 min: Education on company,
  • 15 min: Motivation from reading books/or listening with Audible,
  • 15  min – Call 5 new people from your list.
  • Follow through with 5 people = 1 hour.

If you can expand to another hour each day, then change it to 30 min each, and so forth.

7. Visualize

See yourself SUCCESSFUL.  One entire wall in my office is all about vision posters for my husband and me.  We have our written purpose and vision in large type on the wall so we can stand up and read them together.  It’s powerful!  We also have two bulletin boards in our bedroom with the same vision photos, one is for my husband, and one is for myself. We are reminded regularly throughout the day what they are by photos.

8.  Commit to a time frame.

A great leader once told me to have a two-year commitment, and another said to have a four-year commitment. I added both, with a couple of definitions: “It takes two years to learn, and three to four years to earn.”  Or you can call it, “Getting your Associate or Master’s degree in Network Marketing”.  Having a time commitment is a key element, in reaching your success.  That way, when you receive the first rejection, you are not quitting. Example of not quitting:  If you are wanting to start a children’s charity for underprivileged children, as your way to make the world a better place, just remember “YOUR CHILDREN” in that future non-profit, when you feel like quitting.

9. Set short-term and long-term goals.

It is important to have dates for goals to be completed.  If you mess up…be nice to yourself, don’t get overwhelmed.  Just keep on going, start a fresh new day and go at it again.

That’s it!  That is the biggest SECRET to SUCCESS,  “Keep ON….Keeping ON!”

 10. Reward Yourself Well.

That’s the best part, your own personal reward for reaching your goals.  What would it be?  Grand goals have grand rewards!  For small goals…have smaller rewards.  This has to be earned.  No cheating. YOU are who YOU are competing with…no one else.  This needs to be YOUR RACE and YOUR WIN. Never compare yourself to others, especially if they are building much faster than you.  You are building a solid foundation with consistency, and YOU end up having your time freedom, non-profit, and have made the world a better place with your efforts.

It's YOUR TIME TO SHINE and REACH SUCCESS.  You Can Do This!  I BELIEVE IN YOU!
