I used to go into my office and start “working” and before I knew it, I was down some rabbit hole and an hour and a half had gone by.

I had accomplished nothing.  I was more confused about which coach, which program (generally for free) was going to be the one that would give me the exact steps I needed to create a successful business. I felt deflated, like a failure, and wondered what is wrong with me? It seemed like so many others were successful in the network marketing space and I did not seem to be able to figure it out.

I would dabble a little bit here and there and although I did find some success, it was not consistent and could not be duplicated.

From one day to the next I was doing this and that, I was all over the map.

When I think about how I was approaching my business, it was as though I had dumped all the pieces of 10 different puzzles on the table in an attempt to make one picture.

Building one picture from all of those pieces was as unlikely as my building my business doing what I was doing.

I knew something needed to change. I knew that continuing with free training alone was not going to get me there.  Like anyone who wants to excel, a goal and a plan were needed, along with the right support and a system to help me reach my goals. No more willy-nilling.

Question is….where do you start?  What do you choose when there are so many choices for network marketers?

This, what I share with you here, is what I believe to be the key to figuring this all out and reaching your goals both in business and in life.

First, thing, decide what your goal is and then reverse engineer it.

Let’s face it no matter your goal in business or in life, your goal is off in the distance. The question becomes how do I get from where I am right now to my goal?  What does that look like? How do I do this?

For many of us, for a while, myself included, I had no clue. Hence what was going on with the shiny object syndrome I mentioned before.

No wonder my daily activities were so random, I felt frustrated, I was not earning the kind of money I wanted, and building my business was not coming together for me.

It was not until I understood the concept of reverse engineering my goals that everything changed for me both in business and in life.

Going from where you are today to your goal is an experience. It’s like taking a road trip. If your goal is to travel west to your destination and you get in your vehicle without a map or a plan and just start driving, you will likely end up somewhere completely different and wondering…. how come I did not end up west?  You may even go as far as saying that you are a failure at traveling.

Great news!!

There is a way to head west and have the trip of a lifetime.

Since we have never traveled these roads before, we have never reached this goal before, we want to plan our journey on how we are going to get there.  Just like planning a road trip, we figure out our first stop, where we will stay, what we will eat and what we would like to see.

We figure out how much time we have when we need to refuel.  Along the way, there will always be something that comes up that we had no idea existed and will make a choice to stop and see or drive by.

Planning your steps towards your business goals is just like planning your road trip.

When you embrace it this way, it becomes exciting, it is an adventure, something that you enjoy doing, it is a trip of a lifetime.

This is reverse engineering.

We set our goal.

We take it back to square one, where are we today, and make some choices about what we are going to focus on learning. What do I know that I don’t know?

When my goal was to learn how to build my business online, step one for example was, how to get started on social media?  How do I show up on social media and build a business without feeling like a spammer, have all my friends ditch me, and make sales?

In step one I figured out, what I knew about this topic and what I did not know.  I also chose how much time to give myself to accomplish step one.  This required some investigating to find a community and system that would help me learn what I did not know.  There was a time and financial commitment to learn and take action with the skills I was acquiring.

Everything changed for me at this moment. I was really committed to myself and my business because I knew what I was working towards.  I knew the first steps, and I was not distracted by every shiny possibility going by.

What came next and this is really the icing on the cake for me.

Every month I made time to review the plan.  This is gold!!

The reason reviewing the plan is so beneficial, is because this practice allows us to clearly see what we have accomplished, what we learned along the way, and what may have got in the way along the journey.  It gives us a chance to celebrate our wins both big and small which takes us into the next month feeling great about our road trip. Then we make a plan for the next month and repeat.

Having a clear plan to reach your goals creates discipline in your efforts, you will become more effective, and more productive. You will find joy in what you are working on and will start to see results.

When you know the exact amount of time that you have to work towards your goals and what your priorities are, you are far less likely to veer off course and end up down rabbit holes.  You will make wiser choices about where you are spending your money on training, coaching, and programs.  You will be able to say no or not now, guilt-free because you will only choose activities that will serve you're getting to your goal.

Did you just breathe a sigh of relief??….. Wheew…..IT IS POSSIBLE!!!

I know how you feel. When I discovered this path to my goals, everything in my business and my life changed.  Momentum was created, mentors, leaders, and the results started showing up and it felt like there was a real possibility of building the business I wanted.

The pressure was reduced, you will no longer feel lost, confused, hopeless, or like a failure.

The Secrets Behind Goals from my perspective is all about having a plan. You cannot paint the walls before the house is built. Know your end goal, reverse engineer it, give yourself time and commit to building a solid business, to learning skills that you can take anywhere and will serve you both in business and in life.

Celebrate your wins, be part of a community that supports you, and have fun creating your dream life. This is my secret behind goals.
